Technical description

The Kelemen monoband dipoles are in most cases full-size dipoles without shortening. Some models are built with an extension coil to obtain shorter wire lengths so that the antenna still fits in the garden. The efficiency is only slightly affected by this shortening, but the bandwidth is reduced.

Kelemen dipoles are characterised by low weight and good stability. This is achieved by using lightweight Teflon cable for traps and extension coils. The balun is intentionally not sealed watertight to save weight. The maximum permissible power depends on the balun or the balun and the extension coil used. Basically, Kelemen dipoles are tuned to the lower end of the band (CW range) and must be shortened when used in the upper band range (SSB).

Application description

A monoband dipole is the simplest and most efficient type of dipole. Depending on the structural conditions, the dipole can be suspended in different ways and achieve different directional characteristics depending on the height and suspension. As an inverted-V set up close to the ground, it is an ideal omnidirectional antenna with strong steep radiation and thus good for local traffic. The higher the dipole hangs, the flatter the radiation, and the better the DX chances.

Due to the light construction of the Kelemen dipoles, the requirements for the guy points are not very high. For example, with inverted-vee setups, a fishing rod is usually sufficient as a mast: with horizontal suspension, a small tree with a pulley can often be used as a guy point. Insulators and rope clamps are included in the delivery. For installation, another short piece of non-conductive line should be used at the ends of the dipole.

The 80m dipole for 400W (item 11510.80SSCW) is reversible and can be used for SSB or CW without tuner. This dipole was specially developed for the WRTC 2018.
